Hadrian's Wall - 7th to 13th August 2006
Blisters - Pulled Muscles and Beer

Left to right: Colin, Maria, Eddie(me), Christine, Jason - Simon took the pic
We did it - the walk is 85 miles but according to my route planner we did over 87 miles - its felt though that we did a hundred. The whole thing was done in just over 5 days ( one day was only 2 hours strolling to get limbered up ).
The route and the story are being compiled at the moment and you will be able to see the whole thing from this site. The picture above was taken at the Kings Arms in Bowness on Solway by Simon Jones ( holding the camera so not in pic ) at the start of the walk. Most people end the walk here followed by a few beers - we started here. You also get a stamp for your Hadrians Walk Passport from the pub - you collect these stamps along the route.
On the last day we couldn't find any accomodation in Newcastle and ended up booking into a hotel in Whitley Bay. This wasn't a problem as it was £1.90 on the Metro from Wallsend and then a 5 minute walk from the Metro to the Hotel. It does pay however to book all your accomodation in advance - finishing on a saturday in Newcastle is the busiest night of the week. Below is a picture of the beach at Whitley Bay taken on the sunday morning after breakfast.

The site is being rebuilt from scratch - if you are looking for my log book of mountain walks or the hundreds of Scottish, English and Welsh mountain pictures, they will return shortly. The problem arose due to the heat and a server crash.
